Lenzie 1 – 4 St Ninians.
A disappointing result in the end, but definitely some positive and negative aspects to be considered with Lenzie’s opening match of the season.
Lenzie U16′s started slowly, perhaps nerves or a lack of some key players got the better of them. Some opening pressure by Boclair gave way to a spectacular overhead kick that somehow found its way to the back post and beyond GK, Gary Martin. Gary despite this opening misfortune and the end scoreline had a very good game with some great saves towards the end.
Lenzie began to dominate the game and particular praise has to be awarded to MOM Lewis Marshall (aka EMOD) who showed great determination and enthusiasm throughout the game. He fought well and led the front line, thoroughly deserved to be on the score sheet. Midfield battled hard too, Darren and David worked well, however there was a lack of leadership and control at times. The two wide midfielders Alex and William did very well in spells, but were quiet for large periods of the game.
Half time 0-1
The second half started much like the first. A fast break by Boclair and an early goal, communication and pace within the defense has to be questioned. In general the defense were solid, however there were times of panic and disarray which need to be ironed out on the training ground. Perhaps if Lenzie had scored first in the second half it may have been a different story.
All credit due, the Lenzie heads stayed high and they fought hard to bring a goal back. Some good work by Nawar and Lewis put pressure on the Boclair defense and Darren slotted home a well worked goal. Lenzie had chance after chance to pull the game square but lady luck was not on their side. It was inevitable that Boclair’s would score again to put the game beyond Lenzie. They did, twice.
4 – 1 was the final score, by far not a true reflection of the game.
